The BBC has unveiled the first look at Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew, a new animated preschool series that will introduce younger viewers to the long-running sci-fi franchise.

Produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studio for CBeebies, the series follows a young version of the Doctor traveling through time and space with friends Hannah, Beastie, and Toast-IE. The crew will visit new worlds, encounter strange creatures, and even face familiar Doctor Who villains, including the Daleks.

The BBC has ordered 52 11-minute episodes, with Supertato and Mojo Swoptops director Dominic Minns serving as series director. The show is currently in production and is expected to debut on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027 or early 2028.

According to the BBC, the preschool-targeted stories will emphasize curiosity, courage, kindness, friendship, teamwork, and problem-solving while retaining the time-traveling adventure of the larger franchise.

TARDIS Crew arrives as the future of the main Doctor Who series remains in flux following Russell T Davies’ departure as showrunner and the BBC’s decision to put production of the series out to competitive tender.
