Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White is adding another animation project to his slate, teaming with Lyrical Animation and game dev Jagex to develop a series based on RuneScape.

Announced at RuneFest in Birmingham, U.K., the project will be produced by Lyrical Animation alongside White’s Meatier Productions. Development is at an early stage, with further details expected in 2027. No animation studio, release date, or distribution partner was announced.

First released in 2001, RuneScape is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor. The franchise has welcomed more than 300 million player accounts, according to Jagex.

“I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it’s one of my favorite IPs ever,” White said in a release. “I’m so excited to be working with the team on this project.”

The announcement follows White and Lyrical’s recent unveiling of Godslap, a 2D hand-drawn feature based on the comic he co-created. The film is currently in production at Powerhouse Animation Studios, with Kellan Stover directing, and is planned for release in 2028.

For Jagex, the series forms part of a broader push to expand RuneScape beyond games.

“We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience,” said CEO Jon Bellamy.

Lyrical’s growing animation slate also includes feature adaptations of Death Stranding and Bloodborne, the latter involving fellow gaming creator Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin.
