Paramount+ will premiere all ten episodes of its animated Golden Axe adaptation on September 16 and has released a trailer for the upcoming series.
Based on Sega’s 1989 cult favorite arcade game, the comedy reunites warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead for another attempt to save Yuria from Death Adder, an evil giant who refuses to stay dead. This time, they are joined by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced adventurer whose heroic ambitions far exceed his abilities.
Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Solar Opposites) and Joe Chandler co-created and executive produce the series. The pair co-wrote the premiere, with Chandler serving as showrunner.
Golden Axe is produced by CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Original Film. Titmouse is handling the animation, with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina serving as executive producers. Sega executives Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, and Toru Nakahara are also among the show’s executive producers.
The voice cast features Matthew Rhys as the ill-tempered dwarf Gilius Thunderhead, Danny Pudi as Hampton, Lisa Gilroy as the battle sorceress Tyris Flare, Liam McIntyre as the honorable but good-natured Ax Battler, and Carl Tart as Chronos “Evil” Lait, a humanoid panther.
