Netflix has released a new teaser featuring footage from its upcoming adult animated series Tuca & Bertie, which also includes behind-the-scenes interview with the show’s creator Lisa Hanawalt and co-leads Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong.

The comedic performers play two 30-year-old bird women whose friendship is full of romantic mishaps and candid conversations about womanhood. Haddish is Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, and Wong is Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird. Other cast members include series regular Steven Yeun, and guest stars Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler, and Tessa Thompson, among others.

In the clip, the two comedians discuss how they identify with their respective characters’ personalities and share details on their collaboration with Hanawalt. They also discuss how they stayed on track with the recording sessions and how they understood the message of female empowerment. Hanawalt has said that the impetus to create the show was to fill a void within the animation industry regarding stories told by women about adult issues.

Hanawalt, who is also BoJack Horseman’s production designer, is executive producing alongside BoJack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright (Bojack Horseman, Friends), Steven A. Cohen (Bojack Horseman, Jack & Bobby), and Haddish. Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company is producing the series, while Shadowmachine created the animation. (Both companies also make Bojack for Netflix.)

Tuca & Bertie debuts on Netflix on May 3, 2019.
