Lupin the IIIRD: The Movie - The Immortal Bloodline Lupin the IIIRD: The Movie - The Immortal Bloodline

GKIDS will bring cult favorite Takeshi Koike’s newest Lupin adventure, Lupin the IIIRD: The Movie – The Immortal Bloodline, to U.S. theaters January 4–6, and has dropped a new English-subtitled trailer to accompany the distribution announcement.

This latest chapter drops Lupin III and his crew onto an uncharted island after they follow a mysterious invitation. Their arrival goes south fast after their plane is shot down, and they soon find themselves being hunted by the island’s residents, old foes, and a monstrous immortal figure known as Muom. With a toxic fog closing in, Lupin is pushed into a confrontation that threatens not just his life, but a legacy he’s spent decades building.

The Immortal Bloodline is Koike’s first Lupin feature in six years, and it continues the hard-edged, ultra-stylized direction that fans of his 2009 modern classic Redline would expect from the filmmaker. Speaking with Cartoon Brew, Koike said he wanted this film to amplify the physicality and urgency of his action scenes.

“The keyword for me is dynamism,” the director explained, noting that movement and rhythm shape the way he constructs the film’s world. He added that his team works toward “bringing intensity, style, and motion to Lupin’s world,” stressing how essential that collaborative energy is to the film’s tone.

Visually, the film blends Koike’s sharp, graphic aesthetic with the pulpy menace of Monkey Punch’s original manga, layering in sci-fi elements and stark, atmospheric environments. The result is a bold reinterpretation of the Lupin mythos, nothing less than what should be expected from a director like Koike.

GKIDS’ limited-run release offers U.S. audiences a brief window to see Koike’s work as it’s meant to be viewed, on a big screen, where its stylized violence and relentless pacing can fully land.
