The Super Mario Galaxy Movie The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal Pictures have unveiled the first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the animated sequel to 2023’s billion-dollar hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The trailer debuted Wednesday morning during a Nintendo Direct live stream, offering fans their first extended look at Mario’s latest cosmic adventure.

After a brief scene featuring a mini-Bowser held captive in a dollhouse-like castle blowing his lid at Mario, the trailer introduces two major new characters: the celestial princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson, and Bowser’s fiery son, Bowser Jr., voiced by Benny Safdie. Familiar voices Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key all return to reprise their roles as Mario, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, and Toad – who doesn’t appear in the trailer, respectively.

Like its title suggests, the film draws inspiration from Nintendo’s 2007 Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy, a fan-favorite entry in the long-running franchise. While specific story details remain under wraps, the trailer hints at a cosmic-scale conflict involving the Power Stars and Bowser Jr.’s attempt to prove himself worthy of his father’s villainous legacy.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic once again direct, with Matthew Fogel returning to write the screenplay. Illumination head Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo are producing, continuing the close partnership between the two companies.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie was a global phenomenon, grossing over $1.3 billion and becoming the fifth-highest-grossing animated film in history. Expectations for its 2026 follow-up are galaxy-high.
