This week is off to an eclectic start, which is how we prefer it. We’re really excited to debut the exclusive trailer for the Chilean short The Scarlet Tamagotchi, a hand-painted schoolyard noir that took the top prize at Chilemonos and earned Oscar qualification in the process. Seven French and German films (What’s up, rest of the world?) were picked as finalists for the Oscar-qualifying Student Academy Awards, and a very cool initiative from the Fort Worth Film Commission in Texas has opened another door to help independent shorts secure a free path to Oscar qualification.
Awards season is well and truly just around the corner. Oh boy!
On the studio side, Sony Pictures Animation is officially checking back into the Hotel Transylvania franchise with a fifth theatrical feature. We also remember Disney Legend Don Iwerks, the Oscar-winning inventor whose innovations helped transform everything from theme park attractions to large-format cinema, leaving an enduring mark on both animation and entertainment technology.
