Coyote’s Box Office Bow; Tippett Fire Sale; New Pokémon Feature

Coyote vs. Acme opened to a Wile E. start, grossing $23.9 million worldwide, including a stronger-than-projected $15.5 million domestic debut. To mark its release, Vincent Alexander also assembled Exhibits A through P in Wile E. Coyote’s case against Acme, examining 16 products that left the super genius flattened, exploded, or otherwise maimed through 16 legendary clips. It’s a must-read.

Elsewhere, Phil Tippett emptied his longtime Berkeley studio, putting nearly four decades of props, models, artwork, equipment, and memorabilia up for sale. A separate Disney auction featuring decades of incredible work by Gustaf Tenggren, Mary Blair, Carl Barks, Joe Ranft, and others brought in $3.43 million.

It was also a huge week for The Pokémon Company International. The franchise unveiled Pokémon: Wild Card, its first animated feature in seven years, while Disney+ landed Aardman’s stop-motion The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu as part of a new global deal. Pluto TV, meanwhile, expanded its anime lineup with two new channels, simulcasts, and more than 1,300 hours of programming.
