Adult Swim Premieres First Online-Only Series, J.J. Villard’s ‘King Star King’

Last night Adult Swim premiered its first exclusively online animated series "King Star King." A punk psychedelic space adventure about a He-Man-esque sci-fi figure who works in a waffle restaurant, the show was created by J.J. Villard, a former DreamWorks story artist ("Shrek the Third," "Monsters Vs. Aliens") who's also known for his CalArts student films "Son of Satan" and "Chestnuts Icelolly."

Annecy Announces 18 Animated Features For 2014 Festival

Today the Annecy International Animated Film Festival announced the feature film selections for their 2014 edition. Eighteen films were selected—nine in competition and nine out of competition. A total of 68 animated features were submitted this year.

Tonight in NYC: Political Cartoon Legend Pat Oliphant Opens Art Show

Patrick Oliphant (b. 1935) is one of the Old Masters of editorial cartooning. He began his career in his native Australia, then came to the US in 1964, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1967, the first of many awards and accolades. The Gerald Peters Gallery in New York is presenting "Patrick Oliphant: A Survey," which includes 34 mostly new works ranging from charcoal and ink drawings, paintings in watercolor and oil, and bronze sculpture.

Kelly Asbury Will Direct All-Animated ‘Smurfs’ Feature

Besides today's bonanza of Genndy Tartakovsky projects, Sony Pictures Animation also made it official that Kelly Asbury ("Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron," "Shrek 2," "Gnomeo & Juliet") will direct the upcoming, as-yet-untitled "Smurfs" movie.
