‘Papa Zola’ Goes Global; ‘Evangelion’ To Criterion; Hasbro Wins ‘Peppa Pig’ Copyright Case

Malaysia’s highest-grossing animated film ever is heading into its biggest international expansion yet. We have an exclusive technical teaser for Papa Zola the Movie, which will soon reach new audiences across Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East after its record-breaking domestic run.

Toei Animation recently launched Eterna Animation, a new in-house label designed to nurture original projects and emerging filmmakers, and we got the skinny on the outfit as well as a BTS chat about Foxing: Kitsuné-tsuki, its first original short. We also spoke with the team behind Apple TV’s There’s No Place Like Home, Snoopy about pushing the Peanuts gang into longer-form storytelling, and took a behind-the-scenes look at Dima Grigorev’s delirious, PS2-inspired music video for Shokran’s “Imhotep: The Falcon of Gold.”

In other news, Hasbro prevailed in its long-running copyright case against the Vietnamese company behind Wolfoo; Neon Genesis Evangelion is coming to the Criterion Channel with its pre-Netflix English dub; and Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name is returning to North American theaters in a new 4K restoration.
