Epic Games has The Animation Field Guide, a detailed how-to manual in the techniques of creating animation in real-time using Unreal Engine.
- Clocking in at over 100 pages, the guide provides a foundational look at real-time animation pipelines and includes more than 30 interviews with artists, producers, and workflow experts from companies including Sony Pictures Imageworks, Reel FX, Bron Digital, and Spire Animation Studios.

- Although Unreal Engine was originally developed for video games, real-time workflows have become an increasingly important area of exploration in the animation industry. Epic has embraced this interest from the animation world. It recently hosted Animation Week , an online event to showcase the latest tools, workflows, and free learning resources available to the animation community.
- Animation Week shined spotlight on real-time animation work being done by artists of all skill and experience levels. Projects featured includded Untold Studios’ Malanca, built entirely in the cloud; a Diablo Immortal promo from Impossible Objects; Mush-Mush & the Mushables from French animation studio La Cabane; a trailer for Preymaker’s animated short Blue; and a behind-the-scenes look into how Metahuman and Unreal Engine were used to create the Love, Death + Robots episode “In Vaulted Halls Entombed,” which can be viewed below.
